Guardians' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding epilepsy and obesity in children with epilepsy: a cross-sectional study

Oryginalny abstract (angielski)

AIM: This study investigated the guardians' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding epilepsy and obesity in children with epilepsy. METHODS: This cross-sectional survey was conducted from January 2023 to December 2023 at the author's Hospital, a single-center study involving guardians of children with epilepsy. RESULTS: This study included 500 valid questionnaires for analysis. The mean knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 5.93 ± 3.67 (possible range 0-11, 53.91%), 37.88 ± 4.22 (possible range 10-50, 75.76%), and 13.37 ± 6.45 (possible range 6-30, 44.57%), respectively, indicating moderate knowledge, favorable attitudes, and inactive practice. The structural equation model showed that knowledge directly influenced attitudes (β = 0.716, P < 0.001) and practices (β = 0.350, P < 0.001), and attitudes directly influenced practices (β = 0.817, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the guardians of children with epilepsy have moderate knowledge, favorable attitudes, and inactive practices toward epilepsy and obesity.
